WHITE RIOT
White extremists (the BNP / National Front) have a long
history of provocation in ethnic communities.
For years it was the role of the Anti-Nazi League and black
youths to confront them. But in 2001, young Asian males
shocked their elders - and the rest of the country - by
standing up to the white bully boys - sparking a mass of
riots across the north.
Till then virtually ignored by society, and certainly not
perceived as a threat to the peace, Asian youths became
in a matter of hours the most volatile, destructive and
misunderstood kids of their generation.
Given a strong enough sense of injustice and oppression,
a crowd of young males can quickly become a mob - no matter
how passive their culture apparently is.
Events:
Bradford 2001 - sparked when anti-racist demo confronts
the NF. Asian man is attacked by white extremists.
Oldham 2001 - BNP rally in town centre provokes Asian anger.
Leeds - Harehill Estate 2001.
Aylesbury 2001.
Burnley 2001.
