ANTI-CAPITALIST RIOTS
When you are pissed off with the way the world's run, what
do you do? Riot.
Waving placards and planting flowers in Parliament Square
is all well and good but if you really want to get the world
to notice, you need to cause mayhem and bring whole cities
to a standstill.
The anti-globalisation movement is a vast conglomeration
of pressure groups across the world and while there is continual
friction in it between the pros an a cons of violent and
non-violent protest, it seems that the advocators of violence
are winning.
From the destruction of the City of London to the Battle
for Seattle, the violence has been ferocious. And the authorities
response has been brutal - the army, tanks, tear gas and
the shooting of protestors.
Spurred by a big enough injustice today's apathetic youth
can still ruck as well as their '60s counterparts. And today,
the tactics are far more sophisticated - new technology,
including the internet, is used to remarkable effect.
As thousands are massing to bring down the evils of capitalism,
plenty more are beating each other up in a frenzy of materialistic
urges.
