| EVEREST: MAN v MOUNTAIN |
 |
12.30pm & 8pm
It was in 1976 that the first ever successful
all-military expedition to the summit
of Everest took place. Two British
soldiers, John “Brummie” Stokes
and Michael “Bronco” Lane,
lost 19 toes in total as the struggle
to conquer the highest point on earth,
forced to camp on the treacherous South
Summit. But their valiant effort made
the boys true legends in the eyes of
the military.
To celebrate their endeavours, the
Army return to Everest 30 years on.
But this time it’s going to be
REALLY tricky. Devised by Dave Bunting,
a wily Himalayan veteran, the plan
is to tackle the peak via one of the
most difficult routes. The plan is
to attack the French Spur and West
Ridge before traversing the North Face
to finish up at the Hornbein Couloir. |
