| SYNOPSIS |

|
| The Army have twice attempted to conquer the West Ridge of Everest once in 1988 and once in 1992, only to fail on both occasions.
|
This time expedition leader Dave Bunting
hopes it will be different. He has spent
three years planning the trip, and put
together a crack team, which he believes
can beat the ridge. The 21 team members
include one woman, Jude Humphries, and
Dave’s best mate from School Leigh ‘Woody’ Woodhouse.
With massive amounts kit, expertise and
bravado, they travel from London to Katmandu,
then across Nepal into Tibet. Their equipment
is loaded onto yaks, before an elaborate
April Fool’s joke backfires, threatening
the future of the entire expedition.
Once base camp has been established at
5,600 metres, an altitude which cannot
sustain permanent human life, they tackle
the first real test, a near-vertical
icy crevasse known as the French Spur. Over
a kilometre high vertically, this Spur
will hopefully take them on to the perilous
West Ridge itself, but on the very first
day disaster beckons. |
