real test soon materializes,
as they face the treacherous
French Spur, over a kilometre
of vertical, crevasse-riddled ice. |

| Hurricane
force winds and desperate
conditions threaten the
team’s assault
of the French Spur. Precious
time is lost as they
have to wait for the
storm to pass.
Once they’re back
on the mountain, further
weather woes may lead to
calamity. Soon radio contact
with base camp is lost
and panic sets in. |

| EPISODE 3 |
| The
weather has improved
but now the team have
other problems to negotiate,
as their local guides
down tools and abandon
the expedition, feeling
that they are being treated
unfairly. They decide
to continue without the
Sherpas. Tragedy strikes
elsewhere when another
expedition, using the
Army’s facilities
at Base Camp, has a devastating
accident. Everyone is
reminded of the dangerous
nature of this mission. |

| EPISODE 4 |
| With
progress comes further
problems, as altitude
related medical conditions
kick in when the team
reach Camp Four. Now
Dave has to decide who
is strong enough to reach
the summit and who has
to stay behind. With
the final team selected
the final assault begins.
This will prove to be
the hardest slog any
of these hardened soldiers
have ever had to face. |

| EPISODE 5 |
| The
end is finally in sight,
as the team commences
the highly dangerous
and grueling push to
the summit. Every ounce
of their energy and climbing
experience will be exhausted
in this battle to the
top. They face the treacherous
Hornbeim Couloir, a steep
and avalanche prone section.
They will need luck,
stealth and good weather
to conquer this final
obstacle. |
