The Ultimate Fighter 3: Results
There's not much for British sports' fans to
get excited about at the moment, but one English
born contender has finally done something to
be proud of.
Clitheroe born Michael Bisping defeated Josh
Haynes in two rounds to take the light heavyweight
title and secure a six-figure UFC contract.
The Lancashire lad fought hard, suffering an
early barrage of blows from his opponent before
unleashing a knee to the head which stunned
Haynes.
Bisping took the initiative in the second round,
firing off a shattering number of blows, but
Haynes was strong and refused to submit. The
referee finally stepped in during the final
minute of the round, bringing a halt to proceedings,
after an array of strikes felled Haynes. A lucrative
UFC career is now on the cards for Bisping.
In an epic middleweight bout, Kendall Grove just held off Ed Hermann, with a 29-28 decision. In what as been heralded as one of the fights of 2006, Grove fought back bravely from early set-backs, in a fight that could have gone either way.
As a show of respect to both fighters, they
were each awarded a UFC contract at the end
of the bout, promising a tasty rematch in the
future.
