Michael has
never had a job and lives off state benefits. He wouldn’t
mind working but won’t do anything he doesn’t
fancy. The
one thing he would like to do is be a Hollywood movie star
- as long as the hours are decent. Despite living off income
support, Michael hasn’t missed an Arsenal home game
in 10 years, quite something considering tickets go for
around £40 a pop.
Three years ago Michael’s girlfriend won
the lottery and gave him £30,000. He blew the lot.
His gambling takes the form of a vicious cycle, where
he hates to lose to the bookies so bets more to get revenge,
inevitably losing again. By this method he squandered
his lottery windfall.
This irresponsibility has led to depression and
he often stays in his room for days on end with the curtains
drawn. Now he wants to turn things around, get some focus
in his life and make it up to his girlfriend, who has
stuck by him for so long. |
