UFC 68: Preview
The action just doesn’t let up as yet another climactic UFC event looms on the horizon. And UFC 68: The Uprising is about as climactic as they come, with two recently dethroned champions fighting to restore their names, and a blockbusting face off between the current and former heavyweight champions…
Genuine UFC legend, former UFC Heavyweight Champion, and one of only four inductees to the UFC hall of fame, Randy Couture has come out of retirement to challenge UFC Heavyweight Champion Tim Sylvia. “I just missed it,” says Couture of his return. “I’ve been a fighter in some shape or form since I was ten years old.” And apparently he’s not impressed with Sylvia, who he has been watching closely from the sidelines, noting that the current champ lacks the hunger to keep tough at the top. “If he’s going to want to keep his title he’s going to have to fight for it. He’s going to have to beat my ass.”
Next on the fight card, Rich Franklin stands off against Jason McDonald. Fresh from loosing his middleweight belt to Anderson Silva after an eight fight winning streak, Franklin isn’t half-stepping this time around, reporting: “this is a make me or break me fight right here.” McDonald, a newcomer to the UFC, is keen to make a name for himself by facing up against a reputed fighter. Will Franklin be too much for this rookie to handle?
Third of the three critical fights sees Matt Hughes make a stab at a comeback against Chris Lytle. Sore from an unexpected loss that saw him stripped of his title, expect Hughes to pull no punches in an attempt to put “Lights Out” Lytle, out of the picture. “I am looking past Chris? No. But do I know I’m fighting after Chris? Yes.”
